1999-2000 MA in Irish Studies
(Queens University, Belfast)

This interdisciplinary course of study consisted largely of classes in Irish literature and history. A research dissertation comprised one third of the degree. My thesis was entitled
Protestant home rulers in Ulster elections 1886-1914. This involved research at various facilities including the Linen Hall library, the Belfast Central library and the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland. Ireland in the 19th century was covered in particularly close detail.

1996-1999 BA (Hons)in Modern Studies in the Humanities
(University of Ulster at Jordanstown)

This mainly involved studies in literature and politics. I received a 2:1 classification for this course, reaching an overall grade average of 68%. Modules ranged from Greek tragedy to the history of the American Frontier. The degree also included a sizable Irish interest, with teaching covering contemporary politics and Irish writing.
